It Works, If You Work It

Slips and Human Nature

There is a tendency to label everything that an alcoholic may do as ‘alcoholic behavior.’ The truth is, it is simply human nature ... Emotional and mental quirks are classified as symptoms of alcoholism merely because alcoholics have them, yet those same quirks can be found among nonalcoholics, too. Actually they are symptoms of mankind. William Duncan Silkworth, MD, January 1947, “Slips and Human Nature”, Best of the Grapevine, Vol. 1

AA Books

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) books are foundational texts that support individuals in recovery from alcoholism. The most well-known is “Alcoholics Anonymous,” often called The Big Book, which outlines the AA program, including the Twelve Steps, personal recovery stories, and the principles of the fellowship. Other key AA publications, like Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions and Daily Reflections, offer guidance, spiritual insight, and daily encouragement to help members maintain sobriety and grow in recovery.

2

Medallions

AA medallions, also known as sobriety chips or tokens, are small coins given to members of Alcoholics Anonymous to celebrate milestones in their recovery journey. They typically mark lengths of sobriety—such as 24 hours, months, or years—and serve as a symbol of encouragement, commitment, and personal achievement in staying sober one day at a time.

3

AA Pamphlets

AA pamphlets are informational booklets published by Alcoholics Anonymous to help members and the public better understand the AA program. They cover a wide range of topics, including the Twelve Steps, sponsorship, spiritual growth, and how AA works. Easy to read and widely distributed, these pamphlets provide support, guidance, and clarity for newcomers, long-time members, and anyone interested in learning more about recovery through AA.
