Service Opportunities
Every Volunteer Counts!
Volunteering is how we reach a hand out to an alcoholic who’s still suffering. Every E-Newsletter that gets sent, every front desk chat that happens, and every 12 step call that gets answered can save another alcoholic’s life!
Front Desk Volunteers Wanted
Help carry the message — right from the heart of the Intergroup Office!
The Front Desk is a vital part of how we serve the A.A. community. We’re looking for dependable volunteers — including occasional substitutes — to help keep the Heartland Intergroup office running smoothly. This is a meaningful opportunity to be of service and often the first point of contact for those reaching out for help.
What You’ll Do:
- Answer phones and respond to 12-Step calls
- Welcome visitors and help them find meetings
- Assist with literature and merchandise sales during office hours
What You’ll Need:
Because this role often serves as the first representative of A.A. for newcomers, volunteers must:
- Have at least 1 year of continuous sobriety
- Have a sponsor
- Have worked the 12 Steps and be actively applying them
No prior experience is necessary — training is provided.
Bring your willingness to serve and help make a difference!

Intergroup e-Newsletter Editor
The Heartland Intergroup e-Newsletter Editor plays a vital role in keeping our fellowship informed and connected. This trusted position involves compiling, editing, designing, printing, and distributing the newsletter in a timely and responsible manner — always upholding the Twelve Traditions and ensuring content is relevant, respectful, and aligned with AA’s spiritual principles.
The Editor serves the Heartland Intergroup Committee, attends monthly District 3 meetings, and has a voice in discussions.
Recommended Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Heartland Intergroup, District 3, and Area 15
- Solid understanding of AA’s 12 Steps and 12 Traditions
- Proficiency with basic computer programs (e.g., Microsoft Word®, Publisher®, email)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
This is a creative role with a meaningful impact — but not a platform for personal opinion or controversy. All submitted content must be reviewed for adherence to the Traditions, appropriate tone, and accuracy. The Editor should be open to guidance from the Heartland Intergroup Committee, especially when addressing sensitive or subjective topics.
This position offers a unique way to serve, stay connected, and be “in the middle of the herd.” Gratitude to anyone willing to take on this rewarding responsibility.

Faithful Fivers Committee
The Faithful Fivers program plays a key role in supporting Heartland Intergroup’s work. Through small, consistent contributions, AA members help fund the vital services our office provides.
The Five Alive Committee keeps this program going strong by making it easy for members to donate and by keeping awareness of Faithful Fivers alive in our AA community. It’s a simple way to give back — and volunteers help make it possible.

Night-Watch 12 Step Phone List
Answering the Call Volunteers
Be the voice of hope when another alcoholic reaches out. Most calls come on weekends — not just nights — this list is a connection to help, anytime it’s needed.
As a 12th Step Volunteer, all you need is a phone number and the willingness to share your experience, strength, and hope. When someone has that moment of clarity and picks up the phone, you could be the one who answers — and makes all the difference.
